This fantastic state park has something to offer everyone!

Huntington Beach State Park Camping: A Complete Guide

The best camping areas in Huntington Beach are known for having top-notch amenities, like free Wi-Fi, access to hot showers and facilities, and water, power, and some sewer hookups.

Best Places to Camp

Dogs are welcome during camping in Huntington Beach State Park, which allows both tent and RV camping (RVs up to 40 feet long).

107 standard sites with electric and water, 66 full-hookup sites with electric, water, and sewer, 6 designated walk-in rustic tent sites with tent pads and central water, and 2 primitive group campsites with a picnic table, fire ring, and nearby restrooms (no showers) are available at this picturesque campground. Organized groups are defined as those who hold regular meetings and have an elected or appointed leader.

Booking

The cost of camping varies with the time of year and demand. Up to the day of your arrival, you can make a reservation; however, same-day arrivals must make their reservations by calling the park directly.

Activity Ideas for the Park

It’s hardly surprising that Hunting Beach State Park has a lot of maritime activities on display given the popularity of its nautical attractions.
Any visitor with a valid South Carolina fishing licence is permitted to fish from the jetty as well as from the surf. Included is also saltwater fishing! Swimming is allowed both with lifeguards (during the summer months at a designated place at South Beach) and without them in other areas of the Atlantic Ocean. Boating is possible from the ramp at Oyster Landing, a mile from the park entrance. Shelling, beachcombing, and looking for marine life, such as dolphins and sharks, are other popular activities for visitors.

You can go biking, geocaching, birdwatching, or use the park’s two-mile Sandpiper Pond Trail, 1/4-mile Kerrigan Trail, and several boardwalks that extend into the saltmarsh and freshwater lagoon if you prefer inland leisure. You may also visit the Atalaya Castle to see this work of beauty in architecture, and depending on the season, you can even go to the yearly arts and crafts festival there!

Last but not least, remember to stop by the park store and gift shop to pick up mementos, groceries to round out your campground supplies, crabbing nets for the shore, and more!

Wildlife

Many coastal animals, including a wide variety of birds, crabs, and even alligators, can be found in Huntington Beach State Park. In the water, one can see sharks, dolphins, and other marine species, while inland, one might run into minks and other small animals that live in the saltmarsh and lagoon.

But the park’s bird inhabitants are its main natural attraction. Huntington Beach offers various areas to enhance your birdwatching excursions in especially due to its reputation as the best birding location in South Carolina—over 300 different species have been observed within the park! The amazing wildlife that resides along this section of the coast can be seen while birdwatching along the causeway, the jetty, or the beach.

Geography and vegetation

Huntington Beach State Park provides a beautiful view of the awe-inspiring Atlantic Ocean from its stunning stretch of shoreline, which is lined with sand, rocks, and seashells. The well-known saltmarsh, a lagoon, and numerous plants, including palm trees, may be found further inland. You should bring your camera because there is so much to view in this lovely park (and think about utilizing the Public Uploader on the park’s official website to share the beauty of the park with other visitors!).

Ensure You Bring

You’ll want to take extra care to make sure you’re prepared for seaside adventures and the heat of the south as you get ready for your camping trip to Huntington Beach State Park. If you intend to go boating or swimming, make sure you have your preferred sunscreen, appropriate swimming gear, and safety measures like life jackets and flotation devices available.

Fishermen should ensure that all tackle is in good condition, while hikers and cyclists should inspect their equipment for signs of wear and tear. Please remember to pack an insect repellent, clothing to defend against mosquitoes, and sturdy footwear, especially if you intend to explore the interpretative routes close to the saltmarsh.
